Bollywood parties cancelled following Mumbai blasts

In the wake of Mumbai’s latest terror attacks on Wednesday evening, the Bollywood fraternity took a united stand and cancelled the glitzy parties and award ceremonies that were scheduled for that evening.

Leading the army was actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan who asked to postpone a special ceremony organised by the French Embassy in Delhi. She was to receive the Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters (Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres) honour from the French government.

“We are very shocked and saddened by this incident. Our prayers are with the people affected. It is important for us Indians to stand strong and tell the perpetrators of terrorism that they cannot shake us. We believe that justice will be done. We pray for the victims and their families. And keeping in mind what’s happened, we didn’t deem it prudent to celebrate. My family and I felt it would be prudent to request that the ceremony be postponed, and we thank the French government for understanding our sentiments in the current situation,” she told reporters.

Filmmaker Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani also called off the unveiling of the trailers for Shah Rukh-starrer Don2: The Chase Continues, even though reporters had already gathered to cover the event.

The success party for the thriller Murder 2 was also cancelled after Mumbai was put on high alert. Its lead pair Emraan Hashmi and Jacqueline Fernandez were slated to attend the party along with director Mohit Suri.
