'Bodyguard' movie review

There are three movies struggling to emerge from Salman Khan's Popeye-like biceps. A cheeky, live-my-life movie where a bodyguard who travels by local train gets to share space with a princess who lives in a palace in the fictional Jaisinghpur. A sexy, physical romance where Khan's pectorals are in conversation with Kareena Kapoor's aesthetically curved belly, bared in a sari that stays up through sheer will power. And a social drama which pits a feudal sarkar-raj mindset with a modern urge to choose love.

Unfortunately all three sub plots are crushed under the mighty weight of the Khan star machine. It is relentless. Khan invents dance steps which will no doubt be immediately cloned in wedding parties across India, flexing his biceps and twisting his calves. He finds everyday elements to beat his opponents, from tree trunks to shovels, and doesn't think twice about using the latter as a back-scratching device. He also makes jokes in rhyme (I'm not a fool/You think I'm in nursery school?). When a local train is going in the wrong direction, he simply flies through the air using cables to get to his destination.

Bollywood's Salman Khan takes charge

Salman Khan, a man of few words, says Bodyguard's script was tweaked to suit the palate of his fans. Will Khan surpass his previous achievements?

Bollywood actor Salman Khan plays a glacial bodyguard in his Eid release and we wonder if he has taken his onscreen persona a bit too seriously. When tabloid! caught up with him over the phone to speak about his latest drama, Bodyguard, he was a man of few words. And when he did muster enough energy to speak up, he was barely audible.

Perhaps, it was his facial nerve condition (trigeminal neuralgia) that was troubling him. The Ready star flew to the US on Monday for surgery.

"Yeah, I am in terrible pain — terrible. Anyway, Bodyguard is a film that got me really excited. After Dabangg and Ready, people's expectations are very high. We have tried to make it enjoyable for everybody — it's a part of their Eid celebrations," said Khan.

Known for his charismatic onscreen presence rather than his acting chops, Bodyguard seems to have all the ingredients to make it perfect blockbuster material.

Bollywood parties cancelled following Mumbai blasts

In the wake of Mumbai’s latest terror attacks on Wednesday evening, the Bollywood fraternity took a united stand and cancelled the glitzy parties and award ceremonies that were scheduled for that evening.

Leading the army was actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan who asked to postpone a special ceremony organised by the French Embassy in Delhi. She was to receive the Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters (Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres) honour from the French government.

“We are very shocked and saddened by this incident. Our prayers are with the people affected. It is important for us Indians to stand strong and tell the perpetrators of terrorism that they cannot shake us. We believe that justice will be done. We pray for the victims and their families. And keeping in mind what’s happened, we didn’t deem it prudent to celebrate. My family and I felt it would be prudent to request that the ceremony be postponed, and we thank the French government for understanding our sentiments in the current situation,” she told reporters.

Filmmaker Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani also called off the unveiling of the trailers for Shah Rukh-starrer Don2: The Chase Continues, even though reporters had already gathered to cover the event.

The success party for the thriller Murder 2 was also cancelled after Mumbai was put on high alert. Its lead pair Emraan Hashmi and Jacqueline Fernandez were slated to attend the party along with director Mohit Suri.

Shah Rukh Khan adds another feather to his cap

The latest buzz in tinsel town is that Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has become the first actor on whom a comic book has been launched.

With this SRK adds another feather to his cap. A favorite amongst brands, a renowned toothpaste brand Pepsodent is trying to come up with new ideas to make the best use of King Khan’s popularity.

With an aim to immortalize the superstar, the makers of the toothpaste brand have introduced a comic book starring King Khan. In the ad Pappu and Papa, Shah Rukh Khan is seen playing the role of a father teaching his son the necessity of brushing teeth regularly.

A source from the marketing team at Unilever stated “The ads are targeted towards parents and more so towards kids. Being equally popular with both the groups, Shah Rukh was the best option.”

The source said further, “The ad has been receiving great feedback ever since it went on air and the comic book idea is an extension of the brand’s promotional plan.”

The source added “Fortunately, even in this day and age of PSPs and computer games, comic books are still hit with kids and therefore the content from the ad has been used in the comic format to attract the little consumers’ attention.”
